And I wouldn't call what the US has used its weapons of  mass destruction for "making cookies".  I agree with MLEHIGH and really dread having to share my MBA experience with cynical, arrogant morons.

There also seems to be no solid proof that bush admin has that shows Iraq is building weapons of mass destructions or even that Iraq was related to Al-Qaida and Sep 11. This same Bush admin searched high and low but could not find any link between sep 11 and Iraq and even admitted so publicly only a few months back.

Hmmm.... methinks that you haven't been following this issue until recently.

As part of the treaty ending the Gulf War Iraq agreed to dismantle it's weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) program and destroy their weapons with UN observers as witnesses.

In 1992, Iraq claimed that they had destroyed all of their WMD's, but they did it with no oversight and had no documentation. In 1994 the inspectors found a large cache of VX nerve gas, showing that Iraq clearly had not destroyed their WMDs. The inspectors were led to that cache by a defector who also said that Saddam had large amounts of biological weapons as well. Several other defectors have coroborated this story. Several other caches of WMDs were found by the inspectors, including some that the Iraqis wouldn't let the inspectors destroy and that are still unaccounted for.

So, while the US hasn't "proven" that Iraq has WMDs, it's a pretty safe bet that they do based on the evidence of the last decade. 

Open your eyes.  When inspectors went into Iraq, they found enough anthrax to wipe out the planet.... twice over. 

What makes you think he has had a change of heart? Is it worth the gamble? In other words, are you willing to bet American lives that Saddam has done a 180?

Although I agree with you general theme, the "wipe out the planet twice over" is a media exaggeration. It would only be enough Antrhax to wipe out the world twice over if each person were very carefully infected with anthrax in a clincal setting using the smallest possible dose. In reality, Anthrax breaks down quickly in ultraviolet light (such as sunlight) and is dissipated by the wind.  

So, the inspectors probably only found enough Anthrax to kill hundreds of thousands or millions of people. And that's scary enough.

 

 

Also dont think the solution to Iraq would be as simple as Bush proposes. It will open a pandora's box and may even create another Afganistan out of Iraq given Iraq's ethnic divisions. It also gives a chance to Turkey and Iran to attack Kurds in Iraq. Who knows it may even fragment Iraq. Given our reluctance to commit to a large peacekeeping for in Afganistan do you think we can drive Iraq out of this mess without considerable loss of life ?

"Create another Afghanistan"? You mean liberate several more millions of people from a ruthless dictatorship (although not a theocratic one)? What's so bad about that?

As to your broader point about why Iraq and not Iran or Pakistan, it's an excellent point. The answer is that Iraq has made itself a champion of the Arab (not Muslim, but Arab) street but challenging the West at every turn. The West is widely viewed in the Arab world as a “paper tiger” (both Saddam and OBL have publicly used this term many times). We have this massive military power, but we are afraid to use it. They look at Somalia where fewer than 20 US forces died and we abandoned the country. They believe that we are weak and by killing a few Americans or using false “diplomacy” they can bend the US to their will.

By making Iraq submit (I believe they’ll cave in without an invasion) we show the world that they can’t play games with us without their being consequences. We’ll recast ourselves from a “paper” tiger to a “sleeping” tiger that it’s wise no to wake.

Specifically, Iran and Pakistan aren’t being targeted now because Iran is already moderating and a revolution against the Ayatollahs is likely without us having to go in. Pakistan is nominally on our side at the moment, and they are much more likely to attack India than to attack us. However, there is a real chance that the US will have to deal with Pakistani, Iran, Syria, and maybe even Saudi Arabia and Libya.  Making Iraq submit will make the chances of us having to attack other countries less likely, because they will believe in our resolve and they will have a strong disincentive to create WMDs and give us the excuse of taking out their country, too.

 

Actually Saddam has the least incentive to work with terrorists. Lets not forget these terrorists are fundamentalists with basic agenda of replacing all the moderate governments in middle east with radical ones.

How about the incentive that the more the West is focusesd on terrorism or the Paletinians the less it's focused on Iraq? In fact, Iraq is very strongly helping to foment the Israeli crises specifically to try to draw attention away from himself.

Is it really because Iraq has the possibility of developing weapons of mass destruction?  No

How 'bout b/c Iraq has supposedly broken UN resolutions and treaties regarding weapons of mass destruction? I don't think so

There is a hidden agenda beyond disarming Iraq and striking a blow against terrorism., although these are major factors. And it's not oil, as some suggest. The hidden agenda is to send a strong message to the thugs of the world that we're no longer putting up with some of the things that they are doing.

I'm not sure if this is gut instinct, or a shrewed calculation, but eviserating Iraq for their bio-weapons is certain to make other countries think twice about their existing stockpiles or their thoughts about making more. After all, we've gone the "diplomatic" route to non-proliferation for the past 30 years and it hasn't been successful. Maybe it's time to add a little threat of military action into the mix so that countries have more incentive to take the diplomacy seriously.  

Which country has the most amount of weapons of mass destruction? Would the US ever let weapons inspectors in? I don't believe so.

This is like saying that criminals should have guns since policemen have even more guns.  

Also, the START III treaty has Russian inspectors here all the time. The construction and destruction of atomic weapons are monitored via treaty.
