i will be attending b-school this fall, and i am thinking about entering the world of public finance.  can anyone provide information about career opportunities in public finance - employers, education/skill requirements, industry outlook, etc.

That's a tough one.  Here are a couple of sources, one on how to become a government accountant and another on how to become a budget analyst.

I would think other gov't finance oriented careers would have titles like comptroller and inspector general.  BTW, if you'd like to watch a really scary video of the inspector general of the Fed admitting she has no idea where all the bailout money went, check this out - hopefully you can do a much better job in a few years!
