When I go to apply for employment full time after the completion of my MBA in May 2010, will employers mind that your internship between the first and second year was in an industry that is only loosely related to your career interest? Right now I am volunteering myself part time as an intern in a City Planning & Development Department in a Chicago municipality. I am doing this b/c I want to have something substantive on my resume for next May 2010 when I look for a full-time position in construction project management. I'll play it off as having learnt about Public Finance & Entitlements.
Is it better to volunteer your time in an industry or functional area that is LOOSELY related to what you want to do? OR is it better to just rack up classes this summer and study and earn money in a job that is not related to ultimate career goal of construction project management?
