good luck to you.

it think its flawed thinking, china is not taking over the world in our lifetimes, and non-Asian looking/speaking faces are not going to get a shot a running anything of imporance there anyhow.

Chinese people are qualified enough to run their own business, totally agree.

However, when western companies will be tired of selling only to bankrupt, zero-growth, western countries, they may want to target growing countries with a new middle-class who wants nothing more than consume foreign goods.

Now, weither the middleman will be a non Asian looking face who has adapted to China, or a Chinese looking face who has adapted to the west, is a choice one can make.

Don't get me wrong, it's not about bowing to the new world rulers. US and Europe are still way ahead. But it's simply catching the better business opportunities. Growth matters.

To the OP, hesitating between HKUST and INSEAD is a bit of a non issue, really.

If you like both schools equally, go to INSEAD without any hesitation. An INSEAD label is worth more than the HKUST tuition. If you get both and end up going to HKUST, prepare yourself to be frustrated because so many companies will only target INSEAD for recruiting.

That said, I believe that a big part of the INSEAD academic advantage is to be able to study in both Asia and Europe.

INSEAD is such a good school, that I would like to respectively disagree with those who have said that it is not worth paying the tuition etc. if you are interested in a field or geographic region of interest.

companies recruit by CVs and not by schools, obviously to a point but in case of insead and hkust it would not make a difference job wise where i went.

being in Singapore i cant network in HK and vice versa.

insead is a good school. HWS are great.

"companies recruit by CVs and not by schools, obviously to a point but in case of insead and hkust it would not make a difference job wise where i went."

Be careful, the concept of "target schools" is extremely strong and for me companies recruit first by school, then by CV. They use schools (no matter the quality of their education btw) as proxies for high potential, with the assumption that if you got into a hard to get school, you must be a big fish.
Of course they shouldn't, but they do because they are lazy.

If you want an MBA to get a job right after, especially if it's competitive, then INSEAD is the way to go.
I'm not saying that it's a great school, but the fact that it's a target school for many companies, while HKUST is not, suffice.

If you're planning to go in a not so competitive field or market where INSEAD and HKUST are proven to be target schools, ie your dream company has an active recruiting programme at both schools and not just the usual one or two people that allow a school to place a big name in their recruiters list; and if you only plan to work in China or Asia, then you may choose HKUST.

i think that the last year or so the recruiting process has changed a lot. its no longer time that you get multiple calls just because someone saw you in schools CV book, students have to be much more proactive these days. you need to get on the horn and sell yourself and your experience, just because you graduated from ABC or D many not be the golden ticket.

I have enough ib/pe experience to be recruited out of any school. mba is going to be more of  a life than learning experience, i basically want a break..

I don't think I mentionned anything like a golden ticket.

My point is basically that, with the crisis, companies stopped recruiting, and that those who still do have considerably less budget for business school programmes. And for the business school programmes that are remaining, you'll have much better chances to be in the lot after INSEAD than after HKUST.

It's a simple fact.

@gekkosboss:

If your objective isn't job right after the MBA, but rather an MBA life experience close to the China vibe and a break, then it seems like you've already made the choice of HKUST. This choice is completely based on your own personal and subjective circumstances and they probably are very good reasons. In this case, then cope with them and go to HKUST. I'd even think that you should go, even with no scholarship.

But I would say that you shouldn't try to use objective employment or ROI reasons there, as INSEAD will win hands down, no matter how you look at the subject.

i simply said that i will be recruited no matter which school i go to.  i dont need an mba to advance i just want to have it for myself and take a break from working for a while, thus paying for the degree is not high on my priority list .

anyhow ,have not made my decision yet, if i go to  hkust it will be because of the city of hong kong and nothing else .

That's what I thought :) I love HK too.
Anyway, if you have such an impressive profile, then you'll probably get a scholarship of some form from HKUST.

That said. You seem to write that the MBA won't bring you anything and what you're after a holiday.
In this case, seriously considering INSEAD isn't really consistent with that, as they are reknowned to work their students hard.
But an MBA isn't really holiday... If that's what you're after, it will probably be cheaper to rent a flat in HK and enjoy some idle/party time there for a year or two.
